FAREWELL TO KEVIN!

A move to Fresno where his job is with Taylor and Teter Architectural Firm, Kevin Bohnstedt has said “good bye” to our church family. Having served as a Deacon and Moderator, an Elder on Session, coordinator of the Men’s Group, served as Media person, a member of the choir, and provided special piano solos, we are indeed sad to see him leave. But he has promised to come back on occasions! And we look forward those times.

Thank you Kevin, you have been a faithful member and served Lemoore Presbyterian Church well since 1999. Blessings go with you, and you will be missed!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE JAKE LEE FAMILY.….Ryan Anderson Lee…born Tuesday, January 5 th 2009…to Jake and Laura Lee…and weighed 7 lbs. 6 ounces.. Big sister Amber and brother Jack welcomed him into their family…

Blessing to this wonderful family!

Well, we begin the new year with needs and wants; is there a church that does not? Pastor Sandy has asked for help (financially really) in strengthening the ramps and railings to the church entryway. Dave Johnson needs an array of dry goods, especially for kids (coats, jackets, and sweaters). Please see Dave for further information. In addition, Dave needs more donations to the food box, and certainly Sandy Hudson can use help coordinating the meals ministry.

Happily we announce that Lila Acosta has returned from successful knee surgery, Deb Murphy has taken control of the sign-up board, and Matt Brown has become a member of the nominating committee. But clearly the most important (and delightful!) factor to consider is the arrival of Ryan Lee. Congratulations to Jake and Laura, and Amber and Jack Lee.

Remember Dave Hawk in your prayers; there can be no more miserable condition one can endure.

Deacon Reporter

REMINDER!

 Let’s remember to keep our Lemoore Christian Aid Box full! With cold winter months, and the loss of jobs, many in our area are in need of help. Please bring boxed or canned goods. Also, coats, jackets, sweaters and thermals are a necessity!

We will celebrate Ash Wednesday, February 25 th

with a service at Noon for readings, prayers, and the placement of ashes. Ash Wednesday is the first day of the Spring time season of Lent. It is a day of repentance and rededication. The service will begin at 12 and last for about a half an hour.

The theme for the Well on Ash Wednesday will build upon the noon service.

Following the Well on Ash Wednesday will be our first of the Lenten Studies.

  LEMOORE PRESCHOOL NEWS

February greetings to you all. We had a busy January getting the students acclimated back to classroom life after a long Christmas break. Activities like pajama day and learning about wintery weather helped the children get back into the swing of things. Many thanks to all the parents who participated in the Parent Work Day, because of you, the toys, windows, shelves are sparkling! If you did not participate last month, your participation is needed at our next scheduled workday in May in order to receive your $45 refund.

We have some fun-loving activities planned for February with Valentine’s Day approaching. This month the children are learning about heart shapes and the colors red and pink. In order to mail their special Valentine cards the class will be marching to the Lemoore Post Office. Valentine’s Day parties will be on February 12 th for the three’s class and February 13 th for the four’s class. Please check the cubby room for the sign-up sheets. A quick reminder to the students sharing Valentine cards, please address cards to “My Friend” or “My Special Valentine” to make handing out the cards simple and easy.

The Share Bag has arrived! Students in the three’s class will be asked to take the Share Bag home and return it with their favorite item from home to share with the class. Since the student’s in the four’s class are learning about the alphabet, each student will bring an item to share with the class that begins with the letter they are assigned.

Besides sharing, the students will also be learning about dinosaurs this month. Both classes are scheduled to attend the Greg and Steve Concert (tentatively) on February 25 th. Please watch for more information from the teachers as the day approaches.

Please note that the Preschool will observe the President’s Day Holiday on February 16 th. Our next mandatory Parent Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3 rd.

Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the teachers or any of the preschool board members.

Sincerely

Your 2008-2009 Preschool Board

HELP FOR GUATEMALA SCHOOL

 Pastor Sandy has worked with the Lemoore Rotary Club and some other agencies over the last few years to install a water purification project in the Las Flores School in Salcaja, Guatemala. Jay and Sandy Salyer, Susette Ecker, and Jeanne Brown have also participated by traveling to Guatemala. Rotarian friend Jesus Garcia and his wife Mary are mainstays on the project. Jesus, Jay, and Sandy will be traveling back to Guatemala the first week in March. Accompanying them will be two electricians, Tim Reed and Roger Starrett, and Sandy’s daughter, Sarah.

Electricians will be able to do much good for the Las Flores School. They need new wiring for the computer lab and for other parts of the school. Most of the wiring in this part of Guatemala is sub par. We hope to make the school safer and more efficient with a little TLC to their electrical system.

Sarah is making the trip to see the children and work with them in some athletic programs. We hope to be able to buy some equipment for the school and help the children learn to play some games. Sarah is thinking about soccer goal nets and soccer balls, basketball goal nets and basketballs, and anything else the teachers and students of the school need to provide for play for the children. Our church members have helped in the past with special projects for the children. This year we would like to have your help in providing money to use in buying this sports equipment. We can buy these things in Guatemala. If you would like to help with this effort, please see Pastor Sandy.

LPC YOUTH!!

Our youth group has made some plans for the next few months. On the weekend of February 1 several of our youth are attending the Snow Retreat at Calvin Crest. Then later in February on the 22 nd we are planning a Movie Night. The movie is set to begin at 4 p.m. We will have popcorn and sodas. Those who come can bring their favorite candy and a big pillow for the floor.

A Wii tournament is the next big event!! This will be held on March 8 from 3-6 p.m. at the church. Matt and Sarah Brown will join with Becky Velthuis to put together the games and arrange the brackets. For those who do not know, the Wii is a video game.

Finally, the youth of the church are going to support our Church Relay for Life team by making and operating the car that plays a part on the Relay Saturday. They will start building the car on March 15. This will be a great way to have fun offer service at the same time.

What is Lent?

 It is forty days of stripping down to the living essentials;

It is forty days of facing truth

about one’s self indulgent evasions;

It is forty days of fellowshipping

with Christ in the desert;

It is forty days of rejoicing in God’s

mercy and forgiveness.
